The site of the locally beloved Pier 15 restaurant and bar, a 60-year fixture along the San Rafael Creek Canal in an industrial pocket of the city, has been reimagined. After sitting empty for nearly six years, it reopened in January 2026 as El Tucán Tacos and Beer. The extensive remodel brings Tijuana-style tacos to Marin from the team behind El Tucán’s original Richmond location, which opened in 2019, and a second outpost in San Francisco’s Castro District.
Handmade tortillas and fire-grilled meats finished with onion, cilantro and guacamole distinguish the menu. Fillings include adobada, pork marinated in red chile adobo and cooked on a vertical spit, and slow-braised birria. In addition to tacos, proteins can be ordered in burritos, quesadillas, tortas or bowls, layered into mulitas with melted cheese, piled onto seasoned fries or nachos, or dipped in birria broth and pressed crisp.
The bar offers an extensive selection of tequilas and mezcals, plus specialty cocktails and Mexican beers.
