Santa Venetia residents Hong Phan and her husband Luan Nguyen had two successful food trucks for three years before opening a storefront location across from the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael in 2018 followed by a second location in Tam Junction in Mill Valley in early 2023.
Phan, who has a master’s degree in hospitality, keeps the menu true to her Vietnamese roots. A base — banh mi, rice bowl, vermicelli or green salad — provides the backdrop for barbecued pork, beef bulgogi, chicken teriyaki, spicy pork belly, tuna, sardines, fried eggs, crispy tofu or mushrooms.
The expansive Mill Valley kitchen is roomy enough for Phan to prepare her banh mi-perfected baguettes daily on-site for both locations. A gluten-free version is also available, along with pho and spring rolls.
